Well I thought I would try the turbo on wicked wheel install. Long story short I damaged the vanes of the exhaust wheel. Now it is needless to say a turbo off install. Now I need a replacement exhaust wheel and I need to know how that wheel comes off. How much can this wheel be purchaced for. I need to get my rig ready for a two week trip by friday!! HELP!!
WOW! Hate to tell you but that's a BIG problem! The exhaust wheel and entire shaft are one piece, so it will involve tearing the entire turbo apart, buying a new exhaust wheel/shaft assem., as well as a rebuild kit and balancing of the entire assembly!
If you need things done quick, you better get to a local turbo shop first thing Monday!
Sorry for your luck, hope you get it taken care of
More bad news. I don't know of anywhere you can buy just the exhaust wheel and shaft. I tried to find them when I was looking at getting a van turbo. Does't mean they can't be found though. However, you could look into getting a used turbo and taking the wheel & shaft out of it. But finding it by Friday may be a problem. I hate to say it, but you may just have to spend more money than planned to get up and running by Friday. Now would be a good time for a van turbo upgrade. You could call Bean's Diesel Performance first thing in the morning. They've got new van turbos, and if you explain your situation, I'm sure they could get it to you in time.
I was supprised how easily the exhaust vanes were damaged and the only reason I decided to take the whole turbo out was a bad feeling I had about it. I would not recomend the turbo on install of the WW. Just take your time and do it right. Now back to my problem maybe now is the best time to do a turbo upgrade. Now whats the best option and how much will it cost.
Van turbo from Bean's Diesel Performance. I think they are just under $800, and come with an ATS compressor housing. And, they don't require a core. Give them a call, as it's not listed on their website. http://www.beansdieselperformance.com/
Another option is a Garrett Ball Bearing turbo. They are more expensive though, I think around $1600.
