AC mystery wire and plug solved

Hi everyone. A few weeks back I had some questions about a cut wire under my dash, going to something unidentified on the AC system. Mystery solved. I thought I would share the stuff I learned with everyone here before I forget it!

The mystery harness and plug went to a relay attached to the bottom of the dash, directly under the glove box. The same location that some trucks had an optional floor light. As far as I can tell, this relay only came on a late 1976 and early 1977 with the Hi-Lo type air. The relay looks similar to a horn relay but is slightly different in overall shape. It looks like they discontinued using this relay in the late 77 truck and later. Or maybe they just moved it deeper into hiding. There is a picture of the correct harness plug and relay below.

I also wanted to share pictures of my AC system rebuild job. All my foam and felt seals were shot, so I bought some good spray adhesive and cut up some display case backing and went to work. The results worked out well and cost less than $10. The inert foam costs $5 for a 12 inch by 18 inch sheet, resists rot, and should last forever. Plus the black looks nice on the floor flapper.

My only complaint and compromise was the new replacement blower's wireing was 1 inch too short to stick outside the dog house! One more inch and it could have spliced inside the cab for easier repair if it ever lost connectivity. Oh well.

I pulled all the ducts and valances for dust removal and cleaning. Checked all vacum and dashpots and put it back together. It will freeze you out now!

Enjoy the pix...oh well, too many pix for this post. you can track the pix down in my gallery but here is a sample
