Any brand or model number of plug wires that work best for a 239 flathead V8?
I'm still working on trouble shooting bad mileage from posts last Fall, and my plug wires may be original. They are are metal "tubes" at the end that just snap over the plugs-no insulation at wire ends.
I'm just supecting there may be shorts in some of the wires leading to bad mileage
I bought a 7mm universal set and a GOOD crimping tool to put my own ends on, so I could use the stock looms. I'm runnning a stock ignition on 12v and have had no problems, but it's not exactly a "driver" at this point
I saw this elsewhere and would be tempted if starting over....
I'll get the Universal setup 7mm from advance auto. That loom setup in the picture really is clean. I have no loom currently-but I like the look of thepicture you posted
thanks for the help!
my .o2. go with belden wires. they are quality wire with a lifetime manufactures warranty. i run them on all my cabs, and replace them every 125k. never a hassle exchanging them at napa.
i picke dup 7mm wires at Advance Auto-but they do not sell a crimper.
I have a nice crimper for coaxial cables-but one look at the plug wires directions tells me these will not work
My crimper squashes the ends -the crimper I need needs to keep the shape still rounded when it crimps or the end will not fit down the distributer
Where can I get a good crimper for plug wires?
Thanks
I bought a set at a local auto parts store a few years back, (7MM), and put them on my flathead. A previously running motor wouldn't even fire. I took them back, and even though the book recommended them, and the sales folks defended it, the owneer gave me my money back. I put my old wires back on, and it ran fine. It seems that flatties don't like graphite wires. I might add that my car was the original 6V positive ground system. This was a 1948 Flattie. I later replaced my wires with the type original solid wires, and they worked great.
