Unless you have the tools and know how to take a C6 down all the way and put it back you had better think about getting another C6 or hand make the mounts for the C6 also.
A snap ring is inside at the back holds in the tail shaft and it is the last thing you take out of the C6.
I made a hold down strap for mine. It works fine, it's just more solid than a rubber mount.
Yes you would have to diassemble the tranny to change the output shaft. Any truck C6 will work if it had a 351M, 400 or 460 engine. They share the same bell housing bolt pattern.
F-100Buster, Welcome to FTE! I did this swap, putting a 460/C6 into my '66 F-100.
First, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you get the correct 3 piece factory perches for the engine. It will assist you so much and in so many ways with your swap, to get the engine in just the right spot. The frame is already correctly drilled for them. Your C6 will line up correctly, too, with the existing transmission mount.
The passenger side car exhaust manifold will not fit right; it will hit the frame. You will need to get the correct manifold (cheap on E-bay) or cut the frame (not recommended.)
You may also find that the engine accessories may not fit correctly in the engine bay, since they came from a car. Perhaps someone else can address this.
The car transmission also has a diffferent shift angle; you will find it difficult to downshift into Low. If you can find a junk truck C-6 (from any engine, doesn't have to be from a 460), you can change the internal shifter shaft easily enough to fix this.
You'll need a heavy duty radiator, too. What engine was in there before? Anything less than a 4 core radiator won't be enough.
Do you have a 2 piece or a 1 piece driveshaft in there now? If you have a 2 piece, you can shorten the front driveshaft, and use the slip yoke to connect it to the transmission - this will allow you to use the rear driveshaft as it is.
If it is a one-piece, then using the correct engine mounts will allow it all to fit correctly without alterations.
Trust me, the extra money you spend on getting the correct Ford 460 mounts will save you a lot more money, time and frustration in your project.

This is true if you have a truck tranny. The car tailshaft has a different mount set up and the car mount does not bolt up to the truck crossmember.
I used all of the car brackets at first. Even the low mounted 100 amp alternator. I later found a 70 Mark IV that used the correct power steering pump for a truck and installed it.

I have used the 3-core radiator for a 351M/400 and my 460 has never ran hot. Not even towing 7400lbs. If you have a/c, then you might need a 4-core.
Thanks to all yall for responding to my ? yes I do have the correct stands and rubber mounts for the 460,had to make the mounts that bolt to the block.and the c6 does have the long tail housing.so I guess I will use it for now if the drive shaft dosent have to be cut.thanks again f-100 buster
