PSnut got me thinking on the idea. i decided to take it a little farther. i was at the store last night getting some spray paint to rid off rust on the in-bed splitter pipe that should be coming monday. i decided to get some paint and primer, and do the IC tubes. some residual insulation was left on the hot side pipe. it was a pain to get off, to say the least. i wetsanded with 320 grit and WD-40, didn't help much to get off the glue. i went looking for a gas can, but i cam across a can of my Nitromethane 33% fuel for my RC monster trucks. i dumped some on the table, and then ran the sandpaper through it. eventually i got it all off. sprayed down 3 coats of primer and 3 or 4 coats of the paint. it is "Ford engine block blue" but the pictures do not do it justice. they are real darker. as dark as the Windows toolbar on my computer, some of you might have the same on yours... what is different, is that i also painted my compressor manifold. i think it looks good, i need to spray the oil fill cap to match now... i also primed the clamps up top, and thought they looked good contrasted like that so i left them like that. i plan on getting the black boots from PDP to replace the gray and fugly blue boots. here is my webshots gallery of it, i now have a webshots site so check out my other galleries
Strokin' - that sure cleans up the engine compartment! I'm impressed! If I ever get the new house for the PSD finished, I'll have a better place to do some powdercoating, but I'm with Nut and will go black.
when i was priming them, they were hanging off my towhooks, and it looked pretty good in the flat black primer (same as the clamps). but i had the two cans of paint and i figured i would use it. my splitter pipe in the bed for the stacks will be black though.
That looks pretty cool Kris - I kinda like the blue.... I'm actually considering red - I saw some pics somewhere of all the piping under the hood painted red and thought that looked pretty cool - and since I've got some red under the hood anyhow....
I was thinking about trying to paint the 5-way manifold too - whenever I get around to doing the IC pipes... but I was wondering if the paint would hold up on it. It seems like a rough/weird surface to be trying to paint... let us know how the paint holds up on it!
i got the opinions from the mexicans, and two of them wanted red, one wanted black. he siad the coolant filter and the battery termincal covers, along with some other things. however i didnt want red, i was set on blue because i already had the words on the POWERSTROKE cover and the FORD symbol near the hood release painted blue already. i do think red will look good under your green hood though... the surface of that compressor manifold is really cool, i like it and it actually took paint really well.
