My Trip Computer/Compass croaked. Have a 2003 V-10 4x4 Ex.
It's in the overhead console. Removed the actual module, plugged it back in, and it worked if I held down a few flat things that looked like IC's. Circuits are way too small to attempt a repair with solder. Am I stuck with used parts from the recyclers?
Any idea where I can buy new, at less than the "Stealer" prices? Thanks for any ideas.
Check out Ed over at Discount Ford Parts, he should be able to get you one well below dealer cost. He's one of the FTE sponsors on the left hand side. He's already saved me a bundle on part I've needed for my X.
Thanks Toreador, I know I can't be the only one out here with a dead trip computer. With gas prices what they are, I'd like to know if the mileage was to suddenly go south.
Hey, I wouldn't mind having a spare! I don't think Trip Computers last long in the heat where I live. My old one worked for a few minutes if you held down some of the "resistors" for lack of a better word. And they REALLY heated up when the connection was remade. I didn't see any solder that could be redone. I understand that a lot of electronic parts are "glued" with a conductive epoxy these days. So let me know what you'd like for the extra one you have, Jim. And yes, it works exactly like the original, even calibrated the compass itself! I watched the heading change and blink for about 2-3 min and then it was correct without my pushing a button. MPG and Miles to empty look typical, no change that I can notice. Thanks for everyones help out there !
