Hello everyone,
I was looking around on the internet and saw this site and how great it was so I had to join up. I have owned several Ford Trucks over the past few years and now I have a 91 Areostar with a 3.0L and Automatic. It is kicking my tail right now. It will not run for anything. It will crank up and idle then die, if I give it gas it will run. When I try to put it in gear it creeps along. I have replaced the fuel filter and checked the fuel pressure 40 PSI. The codes I get are 22, 52, 85, 86 ,89. This is with key on engine off. I cannot do the engine running test. Please help he.
Advice from the pros will follow shortly but until then I'd personally suspect the Wiring. Perhaps you could inspect the PCM connector and make sure it's not corroded or loose (it's normally held tight by a bolt.)
You can pry up the 4 clips and remove the black plastic cover if desired.
Should see something like this:
To remove the connector you'll need to loosen or remove the bolt that runs through the middle of the connector.
22 MAP sensor input is out of self test range
52 PSPS circuit is open
85 Canister purge circuit failure
86 3-4 shift solenoid circuit failure
89 Clutch converter Override circuit failure
With all those failures suspect wiring connection. Did the connections look good when you replaced the ECC? If so then go take a look at the two big round connectors under the hood just left of center when facing engine.
I'm not familiar with battery groups. I went to Wal-Mart and bought what their batter book said my van takes. That part number is maxx-65s. It fits nicely. 700 cranking amps.
