I want a new bumper for my '70 4x 3/4.Couldn't find a good used one and rechroming is more that a new one.
I found them in LMC catolog but the add says 2wd only???Why??
I want to go down and get it today(I live 1 hour from LMC!),but wanted to make sure before i do.
Also,I do have the special brackets for the 3/4 4x4 so thats not a prob.
So does anyone know what the deal is??
Thanks.
The stock bumper on mine is long gone.
in its place is a custom job welded up out of 6" steel channel. It extends 18" in front of the grille and has tow hooks welded in.
it was made ot hold a winch, but never got around to installing one.
It works great for pushing trees, dumpsters, chevies, etc.
Only problem is keeping my licence plate from getting trashed when i get carried away
I'm thinking that 4X4s have a narrower frame rail spacing than 2Wd
and that on a 2wd the bumper bolts directly to the frame. So at the least, I'd think that you'd have to get or make brackets to account for this.
I had a welding shop make a front out of 12" C-channel,
extended out a few inches to accomodate a Ramsey winch.
Below the winch opening there is a flush hitch mount
(in which a front licence plate holder usually sits
at the moment). The bottom sides of the bumper are shaved
for clearance. Two D-rings, one on either side, are
in front, and behind, two cup mounts for a removable
front pipe rack. Works pretty well-- probably stronger
than the f-250 frame itself. Can push or push through
anything as needed.
The guy who wrote the ad probably doesn't know one end of a screwdriver fron the other and could care less. Whip out the old tape measure and measure your front frame, then go to LMC and measure their bumper. They all bolted up directly to the frame with four bolts and there were no brackets - at least on 2 WD.
His original post says he has the brackets! I would bet that LMC's bumper will fit fine all bumpers for an f-100 - f-250 (maybe f350) from 67-77 are exactly the same bolt pattern and all if the frames are different between them they use brackets! I would call them if I were you just to be sure and ask them.
The 70 f250 4x4 definitely uses a front bracket. I had to search around for a pair of brackets for my truck when I got it. My bumper for whatever reason was unattached. I think that the bumper from the 2wd would probably bolt right on with no problem.
Thanks everyone and Thom for the print. The correct answer is the brackets are the only thing different.
If you ever do a concours grade resto that needs this bumper, dont buy one.
Have a straight or close to straight professionally restored. This one is nice but some sand scratches are evident.
