Light in heater control panel

the light behind the control **** for the heat, a/c, defrost, etc. is out.
'98 XLT. The radio is out of the dash, but I can't figure out where the light bulb is & haynes doesn't cover it. I was hoping to get to it from the radio space.
I can't figure out how to remove the panel with the ***** either to possibly get to the lights. Maybe removing the console is required. I've done this before, but would rather not if I don't need to.
Anybody know?

You need to take the plastic trim around the console off first (includes the vents at the top) and then you can take two screws out of the bottom of the controls and carefully move them forward (I think you need to take the ***** off before you take the trim off, I can't recall what I did when did this) to access the bulbs in the back of the thing. Be careful as you do not want to disconnect any of the vacuum lines back there. The radio does not need to be out of the console to be able to get the trim off.

I had the trim off yesterday (had to remove the stereo, will never be a thief-took me over 1 hr) The ***** come off with the trim. Just remove the two bolts.
