On my 1988, either the gears or the motor is old and no longer brings the window up by itself. window got below the sill and had to use a pliers to get it up. Shattered the whole window.
Has anyone replaced the motor, if so, where is the cheapest place to get it and how easy was it to install. i am thinking about manual on that side also
Look around on ebay and there is a rebuild kit which basically 3 nylon bushings. Real easy to rebuild. It is actually harder to get the motor out of the door than it is to rebuild.
This must have been done before because the two holes have already been built and the motor was from napa. I might just get a whole new motor, but i will have to talk and see if theres a rebuild kit.
$25 for the glass
$50 for install
$60 for a new motor
Im in the same boat as you were. I got the actual glass and motor today and will do the job tomorrow. Itn't it embarrassing when that window blows up on you in public.
I just fixed my 87 F250 passenger side window. The window went down no matter weather I was trying to get the window up or down. I was told the regulator was bad so i got one on EBAY. I removed everything but the window. I found out the gearing on the end of the motor was bad. The regulator was ok. (Anybody need a brand new regulator?) I found NAPA, Advance and other auto parts stores had a rebuild kits for about $25.00. One place said to use 3 nuts but if anything jamed, the whole window would self destruct. I had to drill out 3 BIG rivits to get everything out of my truck. After talking to a body shop that said I needed to use rivits to fasten everything, I tried 3 bolts and everything is working fine!!
Thankyou ill check it out tomorrow when i have everything apart if I can tell that its one thing or the other i can always to what i bought back but i figure its worth it for the price i payed to just replace everything at once but ill keep it in mind
do u still here a humin in the motor and if so just the clutch is bad and it only cost 5 bucks to fix it most local junck yards or autopart stores keep them on hand and u take the motor to thm and theyl do it all for 10 bucks probaly or thats wat they do it for around here
I had to do both front doors on my crew cab, after you do it once it is a pretty simple fix. About 30 minutes. Got my motor at Napa, in stock for 50 dollars. Other post was correct, you will have to drill into your door. However, only once. I was able to access the other nut with a wrench.
