Hey guy, whats up: here is my problem, I had some front end work done to my truck ( both lower ball joints, and tie rods were replaced). After all work was done I notice a I was getting a slight vibration on my steering wheel (more noticeable while turning left, hard or a slight turn) along with "road noise when I get off the gas pedal (approx. @ 30-40 mph). I took my truck back to the shop that did the work but they gave me every excuse in the book as far as worn tires, wheel balancing, uneven air pressure, etc. I then took it to another shop to inspect my front end. I never told them I had work done on my front end and they found nothing wrong, but I feel it and hear it. What could possibly be, any input would greatly be appreciated.
I may really be stretching it here but maybe with the old worn ball joints and tie rods, you couldn't feel the vibrations in the steering. The slop in the old parts may have absorbed it a little. Now with new ball joints and tie rods, you're getting more of the vibration transferring throught the new parts to the steering wheel. Don't know if that makes any sense.
I just put brand new michelin LTX on my XLT yesterday. It solved ALMOST all of the vibrartion/shimmy problem, but I think that I am going to try tighting up the streering box sector shaft by 1/8 - 1/4 of a turn. THis fix has been described elsewhere and I am tired of the dealer saying it's a tire problem.
Also, don't presume that just because you had the wheels balanced, that's not the problem. I've had situations where the balancing was done in error and was clearly evident after 5 miles on the highway.
hey guys im back. well i rotated the tires and still feel the same vibration. i had a few coworker look and test drive the truck and we all notice a serious play in steering (steering would drift to one side and had to be compesated greatly to straighten out). we notice my power steering is leaking too. can the leaking power steering cause the vibration and drifting?
