Unhappy Help! Rotten Dust Shields

The dust shield in the front disc brake is floatin' around the spindle. I can't tell if it was bolted or riveted and checking with a Ford dealer here the part is no longeravailable. I'd like 2 new ones but can't find anything at the usual vendors (NPD, LMC, etc.). I suppose I can source at a DIY wrecking yard. Anyone had to replace these? Planning on getting the kingpins done (steel sleeves/bushings) so I could have these replaced at same time. Anyone know what years will fit my '80?

2 or 4 WD and F-150, 250, 350?

I purchased 2 new dust shields from the dealer for an 82 F-250 about 2 months ago. about 75.00 each. on the 4x4 the are bolted under the spimdle.

80-86 Should be the same

One of mine rotted off years ago. Couldn't justify paying that much for a piece of tin. I took the old one off and never replaced it... everything is fine.

Jeff's Broncograveyard sells 'em for about 40-50 a piece. I didn't replace mine either after seeing the price ('84 4X4), and yeah they go behind the spindle using the spindle studs.

Pull them off, you won't notice anything.

The oly thing I notice now with one on and one off is that when I apply the brake after driving in rainy weather the brake grabs faster on the side with the shield. There is a quick momentary pull to the side with the shield... nothing to worry about though.

Thanks for the info to all responders. At least I can feel good about removing it. I'll probably hunt a pair up in a junkyard anyway for future use.
