Hey guys. I am getting a rotational clicking from my drivers side front wheel. It is intermittent and there is no rhyme or reason to it and sometimes it is louder than others. I thought maybe something was stuck in the tire treads, but there is nothing in the treads causing this.
Last night when it started clicking, I put it in 4 Wheel High to see if it changed at all, but it didn't. I did notice that I couldn't hear the hubs engaging, but I could tell they were engaged when I made a couple of sharp turns. Any ideas? I've heard that it might be a vacuum control solenoid, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the help
What I mean is that when it is in 4 high and you have the wheel cranked to one side or the other is there a tug at times. To go with that clicking that you hear.
Not that I noticed. It felt normal when I made the turns in 4 HI, but the clicking is so sparatic that I am not sure. I just know it don't sound any different in 4 HI.

4x4's act different when locked in 4 wheel drive. If it is not doing it in 2 wheel drive I would not worry too much about it.
My 2000 F-350 when in 4 wheel drive there is a thumping once in a while. And people have said that is because with the axle ingaged it will bind at times because of the moving parts in the front end.
When I say it felt normal in 4 HI, I mean I could tell it was engaged. I could feel the truck pushing against itself in sharp turns.
2 Wheel Drive is where I notice the click the most because that is what I drive in the most. I just put it into 4 HI to see if the clicking got worse or better. The truck has 14,500.

Okey now were getting some wheres. That in bold is normal. Now when you take the truck out of 4wd. Do you back the truck up at least 20ft?
Are you sure it is from the front wheel? Could it be the A/C compressor cycling (it is also on when in defrost mode)? Does it do it at all speeds and is the ticking always at the same speed?
