Talking instrument cluster

Now this question is regarding a oil gauge and a generator gauge; I have the round speedo type, with gas gauge & temperature gauge. The oil and gen are idiot lights. Now I came across a round speedo type that has all four gauges NO idiot lights, Can I use these gauges "oil preasure gauge and generator gauge" without any modifications? I have a 64 f100 and the new speedo is out of a larger 63 f100 I believe. thanks in advance.

from the electrically challenged.

Staying low for now

without any modifications?
No, but I think all you need is the sending unit for the oil press gauge, subsituted for the sending unit for the idiot light. That should be easy. You would have to figure out what sending unit to order.
The generator gauge might be a different story. I'm not all that familiar with the generators, but if you were dealing with an alternator you would for sure be running new wiring for that gauge(ammeter, I assume).

Prostock, I do have an alternator so I guess I'm out of luck on the gen gauge, or can I make that one work?

The larger trucks like the F500 and F600 used the all gauge (no idiot lights) cluster. They were also used in the 66-77 Bronco. You will have to use the correct sending units. I am not sure what wiring is needed to be changed for the alternator. Look at the wiring diagrams for the Bronco and the big trucks to be sure.

Thumbs up

Your right drof46, That set up would look great in the new dash. I'm going to print it out and put it where the family can see it, after all Fathers day is coming up. Maybe just maybe I'll actually get something I want.

The AMP gage is actually a volt meter and will work with either an alternator or generator. It simply measures voltage. A real amp gage will have heavy wires on the back and like the name implies measures amperage. The oil pressure gage will work with the correct sender and you may already have it. Same holds true for the temp gage. Just be careful you don't run 12 volts to the gages or you will ruin them. That little silver box near the gages reduces voltage to the gages. You need 12 volts for the lights only.
