Does anyone have or know of a website that i can goto for directions or how to for changing cab corners. Fiber glass or sheet metal. I am replacing them on a 56'.
I found rear cab corners being repaired at BrothersTrucks.com
It's not a 56 Ford, but the technique is the same. If you're doing the 56 front cab corners, you can take what you learn from the back and apply it. Alignment is important in the jams of course, so watch that closely. If you're lower hinge bucket is being replaced too, fit it perfectly - tack it and mount your door to see how it lines up. I didn't find any good tech articles on the front cab corners.
FG is for boats and Corvettes not for repairing sheet metal, it will fail don't do it. All sheet metal repair is done about the same way, doesn't matter if it's a cab corner or roof skin. Obtain or fabricate the patch panel to be sure it's large enough to replace all the damaged area. Cut away the damaged metal back to sound metal to include any damaged understructure, don't leave any eaten metal, it will only spread. Carefully fit the repair panel. Tack weld in place with as minimal heating as possible. adjust fit as necessary and skip weld the entire panel in place. Stretch seam to remove heat shrinkage as needed. Grind weld smooth, correct minor imperfections with filler as need or metal finish. Paint. There have been numerous discussions on body work here going into far greater detail, try a search for a wealth of info.
I'd highly recommend Ron Covell's video "Basic techniques for working with steel" www.covell.biz
