Anti-theft device

I have a 2004 F-250 and since I live in a high theft area I want to install an anti-theft device. I was thinking of a kill switch but don't have a wiring diagram to find the ignition wire to the starter. I'm not sure if you should cut the fuel pump in a Diesel. Any ideas?

Randy

Jimmi Jammers

This does not answer your question, but I wanted to share this other relatively inexpensive anti-theft device with you... I recently installed these, in addition to my pager alarm which will page me up to a mile away if anyone sets my alarm off:

I've got the same question. I've seen a response before for an under dash switch, but can't find the post.

A kill switch is a great idea but only keeps them from running off with your truck. I live in a high theft area as well but the thefts are more worried about whats in your car then the vehicle its self. I hate dealing with insurance companys and i hate having to fix things like broke windows or door handles so i just prevent the occurence from happening. I have a big truck so i have a big air horn (the factory horn is more then enough to scare a theif off but if you want to make him Admin note: see our guidelines about language his pants then go my way) I bought a $100 viper alarm off ebay but any decent alarm will work (make sure it has a engine kill). This is strickly optional but its what i did and it work great, but i bought dual trumpet pneumatic truck horn (around $100), high pressure solenoid 12v, and a nitrogen or CO2 regulator and bottle. You can use any kind of tubing connections to rig this up and installation and mounting are pretty easy. I mounted the horn up underneath the front bumper pointed down and toward the front, and i mounted the bottle and regulator solenoid in the tool box (doesn't take up much room at all), but the assembly can easily be mounted to the frame out of sight. Then buy a 12v relay and (this is how i wired it but it can be done anyway you like) the wire that normally connects in line with your factory horn you run to the new relay (i also used a toggle switch so i can hit the horn on command) and from the output of the relay to the air horn solenoid. I turn the sensitivity on the alarm damn near off but because it has a door handle alarm that is activated if the door handle is pulled while the alarm is set. This thing is so damn loud that you can't stand to be in a 100 ft. radius of it. I thing it is some where in the neighborhood of 185db. which will tend to make some ears ring. The whole system with the alarm cost me $300 but i really wanted the horn your enjoyment reasons as well. Great investment and if you show your insurance man the setup he will be sure to a little off your premium. A 10 pd bottle of nitrogen or CO2 will last me about 2-3 months and i honk the Admin note: see our guidelines about language out of mine on a daily basis (probably to much).

I have been thinking of going with the Ravelco Anti Theft Device.

It looks simple and foolproof. Just waiting to get to an area that has a local installer. Price seem reasonable.

The ravelco is a great anti theft device to hinder someone taking off with your vehicle specially if they have no time to waste. But ravelco's statement about being imposibble to steal is a bunch of bs because the thing has been around long enough that theifs know about them. Sure 90% are going to say screw it and move on to the next one, but if it is something they really want and have plenty of time to disconnect and reconnect then what do you think their going to do. I personally don't would just get a good wiring diagram and mount you a switch (so much cheaper). Myself, i want the theif to go away as soon as he lays a finger on the truck or trys to open the door because 80% of the time they don't want your vehicle just whats in it and i hate dealing w/ insurance about that kinda crap. I listed my particular detail description of my application above...

My application:
Cobra alarm ($100 off ebay brand new)
nitrogen supplied air horn 180-200 db ($200 for the whole setup)
Boat lanyard kill switch mounted under dash ($20 and looks good)

$320 and they wont stick around long and if some reason they're able to make off with your vehicle then feel sorry for them because their ears are going to ring for weeks.

I have the Stealth anti theft device from the Ford dealer. It replaces the starting selonoid. It's only a deterrent, but better than nothing at all. The thief may move on to the next vehicle rather than going through the trouble of defeating it.
