Well I figured I'd post up the latest and greatest. I have my JL Audio 570's installed in the front doors and a set of Infinity Kappa 5x7 in the rear doors. Both are 2 ways and sound GREAT! Now all I need is a decent 4 channel amp! The best part about all this is that the speakers didn't cost me a dime! I did a favor for a friend and he gave them to me! They aren't more than 2 months old and have been babied. Any one know where I can get a decent 50x4 amp for a reasonable price? I'll also need 2 line level converters and some cables. I want to keep the stock HU because of the steering wheel controls and the indash 6 CD. Oh by the way... 04 F-150 SCREW. Already got plenty of bass thanks to a 8" amped Bazooka tube under the rear seat!
For your information, there are aftermarket modules that allow the factory steering wheel controls to work certain aftermarket HUs. I have one on the Pioneer Hu in my 2004 Excursion.
I could probably live with/ without the steering wheel controls. It's the 6 CD in dash that I have grown to love. I had a 6 disc changer in my Expedition but it was in the console. It was a little difficult to change CD's while going down the road. In dash is awesome!
Watch that 6 CD in dash unit. There are a lot of posts on this site about problems and stuck CD with those Ford units. That is one reason why I took mine out at 13,000 miles and one year old before any problems, I didn't want to worry.
If it screws up then it will be replaced. If it toasts a CD, oh well, it's only a few $$ to get a new one. Until it screws up it will remain and If I do need to replace it no big deal. I would put a touch screen DVD unit in it's place.
