i have a 93 f250 with a code of 29 - non-Positraction 3.55 ratio
i also have a 96 f250 with a code of 39 - non-Positraction 3.55 ratio
both trucks are 2wd. is there a difference in these two rear ends or did ford just want to throw a couple of numbers at the same thing? if there is a difference, is one better than the other? thanks for the help.
chris
also, on the 96, it has a 351 and an automatic transmission, not the E4OD and i also don't think it has overdrive at all. the code in the door is G. any ideas as to which tranny this is?
chris
G is a C4, but I know that's not right. Ford sometimes re-used codes. A code for something one year could mean something different the next. If it doesn't have OD, it's got to be a C6. You could special order it right up until 1997 in the F-250.
As for the axle, I believe the two different codes mean that one is a full floating rear axle and the other is a semi-floating rear axle. Does one truck have a big hub sticking out past the wheel, while the other truck sits flush with the wheel?
If not, then we can blame that on Ford's inconsistency, too.
alrighty.
the 96 has a big hub sticking past the wheel.
the 93 has the hub sitting flush with the wheel.
does one of these have a semi-floating rear axel?
what is a semi-floating rear axel? what is the difference from a full floating rear axel?
