As some of you may know, I work in the Coca-Cola bulk warehouse. We fill orders and load the trucks to be sent out to Wal*Mart, Kroger, Food-Lion, ect...
I work Tuesday-Saturday, Part-time 2nd shift. Usually I go in at 6pm, and stay until the job is done. Anywhere from 12-6am. Well, the past 3 weeks I have been working Mondays as well (because of the holiday), but I didnt have to work the Saturday before Memorial Day (made a deal with 1st shift...they work Saturday, we work Monday).
And now Im sitting here on my day off with nothing at all to do. My friends are either working or at school when Im off, and when Im working, they are out playing.
But, I do like 2nd shift over 1st. I get to sleep in as long as I want, dont have to fight 5 o'clock traffic, dont see the parents for 5-6 days at a time, ect...
It depends. The demand for generators is pretty high right now, so they have us on 9 hours (5am-2:30pm) a day Mon-Fri and 5 hours on Saturday (5am-10am).
Im not all that crazy about getting up at 4:00am every day and am REALLY not crazy about getting up at 4:00am on Saturday, but its a decent job that pays the bills and leaves me with a little money left over to have fun with, so I cant complain.
I work on an on call basis 24/7. If I need a day off I get someone to take the call for me. I cant do that right now though as my relief was fired yesterday morning.
I start work at 8 Am. I get out pretty much when ever. Most days shift ends at 4 Pm. If we have a job we needs to get finished it is when ever. If shift ends at 4 I hang out and shoot the breeze with the boss for an hour or so.
For some years I was on-call 7/24 and worked only when something broke. I played golf, took 10 hours at the local college, got my insurance and real estate licenses, took flying lessons and did a lot of pistol shooting. There were times when I missed birthdays, anniversaries and such, but it was a good time.
3rd shift here. usually 9 p.m to 7 a.m. 6 days a week except sunday night when we start at 11 p.m. I love it because we do our jobs and go home, don't have to put up with all the bs on days
