horn problem

1968 f100

my horn works. i have the little spring-post that sits in the turn-signal switch. if i ground this to the steering shaft, the horn blows.

however- if i put the steering wheel and horn button on- nothing. i took some sandpaper and cleaned up the back of the steering wheel.

i don't understand how pressing the button activates the horn. since grounding the spring-post to the steering shaft completes the circuit, why doesn't putting the steering wheel (made of metal) on the shaft, and in contact with the post, cause the horn to blow as well?

any help is appreciated-
thanks,
sam

If you look close there should be a little spring contact Button that goes through the steering wheel to touch the Horn Button.
Yes/No ?

horn problem

can anyone give me any info on this piece?

i looked at the steering column diagram in my LMC truck catalog last night- it shows that the 'horn contact brush assembly' goes into the horn...but then what sits in the socket on the turn signal?

i've got the brush assembly...but i'm starting to think that by having it in the turn signal socket, it's in the wrong spot?

thanks,
sam
