[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Jan-02 AT 04:36 PM (EST)]All right I'm about to this stupid carb. I just recently rebuilt it and its acting funny it won't start with choke on it's like its running very rich when the choke is on, it idles very high after I get it started in neut. or park but when it is in drive it at first idles very high but after a minute the idle drops and drops until it dies. So my question is how do I fix my problems? How many turns are the adjusters below the powervalve susposed to be turned out?:-X11
Idle mixture screws :
Starting with both of them at 1 1/2 turns OUT is
a good thing.
It would be better if you have a vacuum tester for this adjustment but a keen ear is okay too.
If you have a tool to monitor RPM this would help.
Set the RPM at about 500
Turn ONE of the screws in until the engine almost stalls ,then slowly turn it back out until you have the highest vacuum or the smoothest idle.
Then do the same thing to the other one.

Sounds like the floats could be det too high, maybe? It's running rich, why? Did you change the jets? My guess is no? Floats are too high.

The jets do not have any influence on the running of the engine while at idle. Only the idle circuit. However, if the fuel level is too high, you can drop gas and it would effect idle. So, check the fuel level in the bowl, adjust the mixture screws as previously said, see that the choke plate opens about 1/8 of an inch when the engine just starts. If you have an automatic choke, then you can adjust the tension on the thermo spring. This will control how long it stays on.
Ok, I checked my float it was about an inch to high so I set so that in the bowl I have ~13/16th's of fuel in there and now I have a hard time starting and with it idling . I am wondering how many turns in or out my fast idle, idle speed (hot engine), curb idle and any other adjustments should be?
Thanks for your help.
