Has anyone converted from a C6 to a NP435? If so, how hard was it and what all was involved. I'm thinking about converting it to the NP435 instead of the C6. I can pick up a donor truck complete with everthing for around $400. After driving the Bronco with the C6 and my last F-150 with the NP435 the NP435 was a much better transmission for off road torque. I was real disappointed in the C6. Anyother helpful hints would be great too!
Before you go to the trouble of adding a stick shift, you should check the rear end gear ratios out.
The stick shift may have given you better grunt not because of the transmission but because the gear ratio in the axle(s) was lower.
Check it out, and if so, you may find it a lot cheaper, and definitely a lot easier, to change the punkins out - assuming they are Ford 9" rear ends.
I have never done a C6 to a NP435 but I have swapped other automatics with a manual. It won’t be a bad job if you’re swapping from a truck of the same wheelbase. If not, you may have to get the driveshafts modified. That’s a big expense. And as stated before make sure it has a big bolt pattern on the bell housing to fit your 460. I’m not saying it will be an easy job because it won’t. The best advice I can give you is to look at the donor truck and look at your truck to see what is different and then imagine the swap.
The Bronco and my first truck were both 78's, so is my current truck. I'm already going to have to have a drive shaft made for the rear of the truck as it originally came with a NP203 T-case. I'm using a NP205 t-case which is considerably shorter. The donor truck has a 351M in it which has the big block bolt pattern so that should not be an issue...I hope.
