I just recently replaced the tail lights on my 48 F1 with the old style tail lights.
The lights especially the brake lights aren't as bright as they should be. I went to advanced auto yesterday and found xenon bulbs for $10.00 a pair. They are a lot brighter but i am concered about the bulbs getting to hot for the housing. All the halogen bulbs i looked at weren't the push and turn type socket.
I was wondering if anyone would have any concern about these type of bulbs.
I'm going to be lining my taillight housings with aluminum foil to see if I can brighten them up. I have read about it here and on other hot rod forums. Try this thread:
If the end of the bulb faces the lens, you can get LED based "bulbs" in several different diameters that are a direct replacement, much brighter than any incandescent bulb and no heat worries. They aren't especially cheap but should last the life of the truck.
