Resto-Mod '78

Well...my restomod project has begun on my 78 long bed. My first question of many to come I'm sure is if there is a company that makes either a complete wiring harness for these trucks or at least the harness for the rear (tail lights etc.)? The wiring on this truck was rigged together. Also, is there a rebuild kit for tilt steering wheels? My truck came with one and it is loose as all get out. I need to tighten it back up. I'll keep updating photos of my progress for anyone who is interested. This is going to be a ground up resto and my first one. Best part is...I already see the final product!!! Makes for great motivation when you get frustrated

I think I've heard that painless wiring has a wiring harness for our trucks.

For the rear wiring, I just bought a roll of trailer wire - has green, yellow, white and brown all fused together. The I just cut out the old wire and soldered in the new. I also replaced the rear light sockets while I had it all apart. Works great.

Ok, my next question would be where can I get a wiring diagram for the 73-79 trucks or would the diagrams in the back of the Haynes manuals be suffice?

You may be able to make them work. The best one is on the repair manual cd rom. Its sold on this site (Motorhaven is the name of the store) for $50. That way you have all the repair manuals and wiring diagrams - very usefull tool.

UEMF,

It is a well known fact that althought Painless is okay fromn some, it is considered very painful for others not only for the product but from what I have read the service.

May I suggest ...suggesting www.centechwire.com like I do instead ?

1ole4, Try www.centechwire.com for your harness

There is a thread on here that covers both companies and centech blows painless awy on both counts.

The parts for tilts are long gone.
You can however use the parts from a van tilt (except the steering shaft)to rebuild yours.
I have some extra parts here if you can't find one at a wrecker.
E-mail though don't talk about it here.
