shifter loose

My 88 F250 shifter started getting very loose so I remove the boot and took out the 3 screws and removed the shifter and noticed that one of the 2 guide pins on the transmission completely came out.

I can push back in but it keeps slipping back out.

Do I need to replace the pin or is there a way I can use the same pin? What can I use or do to glue the pin in so it doesn't come out.

Thanks for helping here.

Shifter jammed and will not shift to other gears. Help

Ok. I decided to replace the damaged alignment pin to reduce the slack when I shift. I put everything back to normal.

Now I have another issue.

I can't get the shifter to change gears. It’s locked up. When I start the truck, I need to put in the clutch because it's in gear. I think it’s in fifth gear.

Another issue is that I can’t put the T-case in neutral so I can start the truck without putting the clutch in. Don’t know what happened here.

Does anyone have a suggestion to free up the gears so I can change gears with the shifter?

Do I have to disconnect the drive shaft and try and see if that makes a difference?

Any advice would be appreciated.

When you say locked up do you mean the shifter does not move at all or what?

Thanks for helping here.

The shifter won't go into any gear. The shifter will pivot a bit but will not go into anything. I can't get out of the current gear.

Anything would help here.

thanks

Had this happend ONCE with my 74 F250 that had the Granny 4 speed. couldnt get the tranny or t-case to do anything. My dad said not to force things....so what would somone my age do? Hehe...i got me a pipe that fit over the **** for extra leverage and WAMMO!! I got her outa gear is what i did! but it cost me a bruzed forhead.

But since your 88 prolly has the ZF 5 Spd? i wouldnt try to force things. What ive seen done in the past is to push the clutch in, roll the truck and getting going a good 3-5mpg and pop the clutch (***make sure you push the clutch back in right after you pop it out***), kinda like what you would do to roll start the truck but your trying to make the gears mesh properly. Try not to overdue the speed cuz excessive force might cause things to break/chip the gears.

Let us know of any progress!! GL!!

Wow!

OK. I currently have the truck parked on the groundnot pavement. There's no way I'll be able to get it to roll to get the momentum. I'll have to find someone to help pull it on to the driveway.

I'll have to find a way to get this done unless there another way besides rolling and popping the clutch,

I really appreciate your help and I'll keep you posted.

Shifter jammed and will not shift to other gears. Help

OK. Here's the scoop.

I couldn't get the F250 onto the driveway so I could coast and pop the clutch to see if it would free the shifter gears.

So What I did was raise the back, started the truck and release the clutch to see if the wheels would spin and they did not. Also noticed that the rear wheel were free when raised and would spin with no problem. I started the truck with the clutch in. when I would release the clutch. it still bogged and would of stalled if I didn't put the clutch back in.

Also, the shifter will not let me shift into other gears.??? STUCK.

I'm in Big trouble. The clutch is still catching even when the rear wheels are free. ??? I even raised the front-end and sure enough the wheels are free but the clutch still catches either way.

I would try and put the T-case in neutral but still the clutch would catch.

I can't under stand why the clutch is still grabbing when all wheels are free.

However, I didn't try and put the truck on all 4's and try to see what would happen but don't think that would make a difference.

I'm assuming it's something to do with the clutch. I replaced the Pilot bearing and clutch plate ete about 2 years ago I didn't every have an issues since then. It's stuck in one of the gears.

I give up..

Any suggestions?
