Question 95 straight axle conversion

i own a 1995 f150 4x4 and i'm tired of my ttb front end eating up my tires. So i was wonder if neone here has done a straight axle conversion if so how easy was it to do and what problems did you run into.

I just finished an SAS on my 94 F-150. It wasn't hard to do at all. I went with around 10 inches of lift and am running 40" hawgs so I did a few custom things. I dropped the spring mounts, made up new shock mounts. I used 6 inch lift springs and the radius arm drop brackets then lowered the coil buckets about 4" to put me at the height I wanted. One thing you want to make sure of is- when making yuor trac bar mount keep it parallel to the drag link or you'll have steering issues. Here's some pics of mine- https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=19925
Alot of others on here have done the sas too. If you type sas into the search box you'll find some helpfull threads. Good luck with your project!

EDIT: sas stands for solid axle swap (not sure if you realized what I meant)

EDIT AGAIN : Also check out the offroad forum. Alot of helpful threads there too.

Get it aligned regularly and you won't have any problems with tires getting eaten up. Firestone has a deal where you pay $179 and you get as many alignments as you want. A solid axle swap will cost you $1500 to $2500 easy, not including the hours and hours of labor.

It's an easy call when you think about it.

If you're doing it for strength reasons, then it's a different story. But if you just want to keep it aligned, it's an enormous waste of money, IMO.

re

strength is also a big deal to me means i want to run at least 35s (hey i only have a 4.9 liter cant go to big) besides i've had it in for alignments numerous time but the company whose name we wont mention cant ever seem to get it even close. Also where i live there isnt neone who has a sas on a 90s f150 so i thought it would be cool to be a little different. O one more question i read somewhere that 78 and 79 dana 44 front axles are different in some way is this true and which one would be better for what i want to do. Thank for everyones help its all really helpful

I'm under the understanding that 78-79 axles were the same but I'm not 100% sure. Mine came out of a 78. Don't worry about "only having a 4.9". I've always been fond of them big old sixes. Also, Andy is right, you can sink some money into it. I've got about $1500 in mine, but I bought all new parts except the axle and diff. You can do it cheaper if you run across usable junkyard parts. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
