My 16 year old son, mitch, has an 82 Bronco and was told that it was powered by a 351w. Now the VIN indicates that the truck is a 6 cyl engine, it's not! So this is not the original engine as it is an 8 cyl for sure, but what????
Question: where can he find an ID # to confirm year and block size???
This Bronco is his summer project to build a mud machine. He is a novice, and I less, when it comes to engines, but he is confident in himself and I believe that he can do this and do it well. Your help is appriciated.
Matt
My block code is F4AE 6015 FA4
Ive have tried to look all this up and am stumped. According to everything Ive read this is a 94 Galaxie motor? Did ford even make a galaxie in 94?! and I cant find anything that helps me with the 6015, or the FA4 part. Any help would be appreciated!
6015 is the base number for engine block. F4 =1994 is a year change identifier. The A is not necessarily Galaxie, but stands for passenger car (some may argue with that, but it is what it is), and the FA4 part is just for changes within the design. So that all said, the engine is a 1994 engine. The change could mean the roller rocker feature, or the fuel pump bolt holes eliminated, or something like that. I'm not familiar with newer engines. Heck, 1994, it could be a 4.6L for all I know, lol.
Well the F4 casting number eliminates all other small V8's as neither the C or M made it past about 1980, so it's either a 302 or 351w. To differentiate the two measure the width of the intake from head to head, if you get something like 9" it's a 302, 11" is a 351. If it is a 351 it's the best late model version made.. factory equipped with a roller cam.
I believe you read the casting number wrong. There is no Ford V8 known to the internet with a F4AE 6015 FA4 casting number.
The number is almost certainly E4AE 6015 FA4 which signifies a 351W, of 1984 revision. This could have been made up until the next 351W revision which was the F4TE roller block, debuting in 1994.
You are right, I looked again and it is E4AE. The other number is a little hard to see with the starter back on there, but it looks like 7 J8 Just like that with the space. I was told the motor is out of a 93 F-150, and it does have the serpentine belt set up still.
