8*-12* BTDC or right at TDC.

Don't worry too much ...this is why the distributor swivels...to allow a perfect adjustment

ok well today i installed the new ignition and put new spark plug wires...yes its been running the past few days but when it goes into higher RPMs it starts to shudder and sounds like its missing im not sure.....like loping.....again i found TDC and pointed to the number 1 spark and its started up and idle ruff but with high RPMs i had to adjust the idle screw down alot(setting the idle up) just to keep the engine from stallin out....then i look and i forgot to put on the number 1 spark plug wire back on...so i plugged it back in and noticed no difference(thats when i decided to go buy new spark plug wires) so 2morrow (cuz it got to dark) i will make some adjustments to my newly cut wires and make sure they are ALL making correct contact....thanks guys

i had the same problem with my 400. i bought a summit racing high output mini starter and no more problems. cost about $160 you get what you pay for.

well as i stated earlier at higher RPMS it ran REAL choppy so i adjusted the idle screw down quite a bit so i could hear how nasty it ran and then just turned the distributor accordingly till it all evened out real nice....i got it
