Ok so I am a diehard do it yourself kind of guy and have my drive train on my 65 f100 about 95% complete she drives like a new truck (40 years ago) I love driving this old truck but it is time for me to stop putting the body work off.
I have never done body work before but what to give it a shot. My first problem is a dent in the corner of the hood that is at a double panel. It is probaly the only dent that could use a slide hammer pop out.
What I am looking for is someone who might own one of those spot rivet welders that you hook a slide hammer to to pop the dent out. This is the only dent that needs it the rest are light dings that I might attempt leading in.
I am willing to drive to were ever someone might have access and even bring the beer or soda what ever.
I am a pretty good mechanic and will trade labor if you would like help on any project.
I am doing this truck on a low budget and also like doing the work as a hobbie. It sholdn't tanke no more than half dozen studs and I would be willing to pick some up if need be.
I don't have one, but you might find a deal for one at RayCo, they sell a lot of used stuuf, Import and domestic stuff too...sometimes you have to wander through to find what you need, they don't always have a good inventory list...something tells me Harbor Freight carries import ones as well that are priced right.
All else fails, I could mig the studs on for you...a bit more cleanup after snipping them off, but it shuold work fine
There you go...drive to Clint's and have him weld on the studs, then drive up here to Clearlake and use my slide hammer to yank them! Hmm...with gas what it is, probably be cheaper to buy one down there...
The kit comes with a small slide hammer - and I inherited one from my step father who ran a body shop all his life - that one is not small, has a huge screw you drive through the panel, and then pull the dent out. I swear you could straighten frames with it!
I hope to be driving up to Sonora end of the week, first of next week. If so, I will drop it by your work or home. I would just as soon you use it this month, as I hope to need it myself next month!
TigerDan,
Yeah, but you wouldn't get to go visit FTE buddies in the process. A big part of the fun part of belonging to a club like this, and having a restore project, is the social aspect. It would be nice though if we all weren't so spread out and gas wasn't so damned expensive. I can't wait to finish my 74 Highboy and show her off. Man that fresh 1968 vintage 460 runs like a stripe-assed ape.

YOU got it - but I am making that work for me. I am just waiting for you to tell one of your fish stories, then I intend to make you put up or shut up. I will park my camper nearby and use your boat and knowledge to get me some trout!
If you want to use my boat, ya better bring a tool kit. It's not too good for trolling either with a 75 HP Evinrude LOL. She's an old 1960 Glasspar. Runs pretty good but needs some tlc.
However, I can get some cheap rental boats at work for about $15 per day. 14' aluminum with an 8 HP Honda. Problem is, I have to rent it for 3 days as I would need to return it after my 3 days off. Either that or drive back and forth to return it. ($ fuel prices x mileage = $$$)
I usually stream fish these days. Not too many fish stories generated there but I did get lucky a couple of years ago and landed a 6 pound rainbow out of Markleeville Creek. Obviously a planter but fun none the less. Seemed kind of odd pulling something like that out of a creek.
I'll probably be using your knowledge for the lakes Clint. All I know how to do effectively there is float that powerbait stuff off the bottom and drink beer on the shore (or boat). Never did much trolling.
Let me know when your gonna be in the area in advance. Me and the wife have been trying to get out and camp as much as we can these days so it is possible we could be committed to a trip when you come over the hill.
ps, JD, sorry for highjacking your thread. Wish I could help you out with your body work but I'm in the same boat. Actually probably worse. I have no body work skills at all. What ever happened to the auto body workshop/class idea that was talked about a few months ago?
