I know the vibration is an issue but was wondering if anyone had this happen to them. I had the truck out and after about 2-3 miles at sppeds of 40 and up the truck started to shake violently. It was actually hard to hold on to the steering wheel, but you could feel it in the seats also. My girlfriend actually looked over at me because she felt it. Anywhere from 40+ it got worse. I pulled over and did a quick check on all of the tires for a flat. all were ok. Pulled back out on the road and it was gone. Drove smooth as glass. A few days later I ran out to get gas in it and after about a mile it started again, and continued to the gas station, even at lower speeds. Filled the truck up and pulled back out, once again, smooth as glass. Temeperature were near the 90's when this happened. This sounds ridiculous, and if a got a car at work with this complaint, I would be skeptical. But it happen's and it's violent. And i'm going away next week towing a camper 5-700 miles. Any ideas? By the way, it's an 04 fx4 SC with 13k miles and the bf goodrich tires. Thanks.

my 2004 sc sb fx4 5.4L did that!! it was in the dealer for months. driveshafts changed, rear shocks changed to adjustible rancho's. frame damper kit. balanced the tires over and over then finally replaced 2 of them. rebuilt the rear end. 3000km of road tests with the data logger in it. after all that it went away and never came back but i got rid of the truck about 4 months after that because it began to eat fuel pumps
ALmost willing to bet it's your emergency brake hanging up. There was a problem with 04's and I believe some 05's. Bring it in and have it checked, it was probably dragging on the rear rotors and it could have warped them.
96F150 has got it right it is the parking brake. When it does it again take a look at the back wheels and it should smell like brakes burning. I had the same thing happen to me last week and had it fixed.
Well I got it back from the dealer. They said they performed a tsb, to the tune of from what he told me was checking tire pressures. I asked for the bulletin and he said he would mail it to me, he couldn't get it at 3:30, which is crap. I told him that it wouldn't be fixed, but was assured it was. Took it and went camping. vibration started and lasted for about 2-3 miles on the turnpike around 65. You could see the wipers shaking on the windshield. Two weeks later, still no bulletin in the mail. I went to take it to work today, first I notce that after all the rain we had here the back seat is soaked. Then I leave and as soon as i hit 40+, here comes the vibration. It was so bad that I turned around and got my car. So it's now time for a new Ford dealer, and to call ford and complain about the other one. I'll post back when I get a new set of answers. And to anyone in southeast PA, avoid Faulkner Ciocca Ford.
Good luck Ferguson. My vibration in my '04 was due to the park brake as the others have already mentioned. I second the shoddy Ford Service deal. I switched from my normal dealer as well. My wifes Taurus poured water in the floorboard of the passenger side and they wanted to charge me $400 to fix it. I made the call too and it was taken care of.
Happened to me in an older truck i had. I would shake so bad that the tires would actually come off the pavement. It broke a lot of various things. My problem was a knot on the tire, kinda looked like a knot on a tree. too much air pressure was the culprit.
4th the parking brake lever/cam hanging up. Mine was in for replacement of the re-engineered levers and they also put two new rotors on the rear. If I get my paperwork in the mail and it has a TSB # I will post it. So far, after almost a week of driving it since this repair...no problem. Make them do the repair anyway, because the first time I went they said my emergency brake function was fine. Second time a different service advisor told me exactly what it was as he had had 2 or 3 others with the same complaint and the repair that solved it was the replacement of the emergency brake levers due to sticking. They sometimes cause a "rust weld" condition to the component.
Well they felt it and ordered a driveshaft. Will come in on friday, than install and roadtest again. Water leak was 3rd brakelight. Does anyone have the number for this parking brake tsb? they seem to be overlooking it. Thanks.
Ive posted on this site before asking about a parking brake tsb. Several ford techs replied that none exists. Nevertheless, what is causing the parking brake to hang up is the parking brake cam that is rust welded together. It a pretty easy fix. The cams need to be taken apart, cleaned, and then reassembled with high temp grease so that the don't rust together again. Took me maybe 2 hours in the driveway to do both sides. That was after waisting 6 hours at the dealer and they didn't even fix it. Do a search I know there's more information about it on this site.
There are a few TSB's for this truck. It's sounds like they need to do the first one 06-12-4 where Ford replaces the steering gear. I think there is another one but don't see it, where they also replace the brake cailipers and pads and the gear assy.
