99 SCab 4x4 5.4L Last night I was changing my oil and noticed that there were a few drops of antifreeze on the framerail, passenger side, rear of the engine/trans. It seems like I've read posts on antifreeze leaking somewhere from the block on these motors. Does anybody have any ideas? I baby this truck, it doesn't get driven much and is meticulously cared for, so I want to get this fixed. I drove it about 300 miles today, watching the temp guage constantly with no change, and the coolant level is good.
thanks in advance for any help.
Are you sure it was antifreeze? Before changing the oil did you drive it around for a while with the air condition running? Not doubting you but you could be looking at condensation from the a/c.
Bigdaddy II, yeah I'm pretty sure it was antifreeze - it definitely had a flourescent green tint to it. I tried to see where it was coming from but couldn't follow it up the framerail, so it kind of has me baffled. Once I've got a little more time, I'll try to backtrack it to the source. Does anybody have any ideas?
It looks like there might be some heater core hoses above it. I traced it up the transmission dipstick tube, then to some kind of baffle or heat shield above that, but I can't see anything above that. It all gets hidden directly behind the passenger side rear of the block. I'm starting to think that it might be a head gasket. I ran my fingers around the back of what hoses I could reach and couldn't feel any liquid. I got some head gasket sealer you put in the radiator, so I guess I'll try that tomorrow or the next day. If anybody has any more input I'd love to hear it.
