hello all. I just got in from installing my 3-3.5" dp and I also killed the kitty (thanks Dale!!). well my question is...Has anyone noticed an increase in interior noise? It seems to be coming from the down pipe im not sure if this is normal???
thank you in advance

Sounds like the dp may be touching the frame or firewall. Double check to make sure its not rubbing anywhere. Its not uncommon for the truck to sound a bit louder after installing a bigger exhaust.

you will know if the dp is touching the truck. I had this problem for quite awhile after installing mine.It took 5 or 6 tries to get it perfect. All my bushings are shot and there is just enough room for the dp.If the dp is touching it will resonte through the whole truck.

adjustment room

The only way to adjust downpipe and exhaust system, is to loosen clamps in multiple connections so you can make adjustments. Pain in the xxxx, but no easier way. When I installed my downpipe I used a 2x4, to press against firewall for more clearance room. Tight fit if trying to change from stock to 3 inch downpipe. A llittle wd-40 works well when trying to slip pipe connections, or change positions. jcab

hey thanks j cab i worked on her yesterday and unclamped everything and cut out wooden wedges out of a 2x4 and hammered them in between the firewall and the pipe. it still tweaked with the torque of the engine.it took a few tries to get it to stay but it still rubs every once in a while when i drive in our fields with ruts and such. anyone else have a similar problem with this? any info would be appreciated

Talk to 1996pwrstrk he had the same problem. I'm not sure how he fixed it. I didn't have any trouble. I did mine when the engine was out. sawzall in three places and a 5# sledge took real good care of it.

My 94 was like that. I had to change the motor mounts. They were worn out and let the engine rock too much. Helped quiet it down some also.

2x4 pry bar

I used a 2x4 about 2 or 3 feet long, with the downpipe installed loosely. Using the 2x4 between the downpipe, and the firewall gives you plenty of leverage to pry open up that area for more room. When all else fails, do it the caveman way! Jcab

you can also chain down the drivers side of the motor to the frame..
leave just a tiny bit of slack.. This will prevent rocking of the engine under load even if the mounts are worn. old racers trick..

Motor Mounts Secure?

HAVE YOU ANY LOOSE MOTOR MOUNTS, SOUNDS LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING LOOSE DUE TO THE MOVEMENT OF THE ENGINE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. IF THE CLAMPS ARE IN THE WAY SPRAY SOME WD-40, AND DISCONNECT EVERY THING EXCEPT THE DOWNPIPE, AND WORK BACK FROM THE TURBO. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE, AND IT WAS A PAIN FOR ME WHEN I INSTALLED MINE. FIREWALL SHOULD MOVE ENOUGH TO MOUNT DOWNPIPE ON TURBO. JCAB
