i just picked up a 1980 C-700 with a 370 2 v in it, and i'm pretty sure its got a broken cam. the dizzy spins and the rockers kinda bounce on no.1 cyl, (drivers side, sorry, havin a brain fart) and the rest do nothin. plus there is a few push rods that have gone missing!! i haven't gotten the intake off yet to see what happend but can a guy still get a cam for the 370?? when a cam breaks does it usually ruin the block?? i'm guessing the cam bearings are shot now. also i saw i few traces of coolant on top of the heads, so i'm figurein that might of had somethin to do with this. sorry for all the questions but this is the first time i've run across this before.
sure you can get a cam for a 370, it's the same cam as used in any other 385 series engine, but I would look real close at that engine, most likely yes the cam bearings are gone, and when you pull the pan your probaby gonna find some metal, there might even be a chance of having a broken con rod that swung around and hit the cam and damaged the block too. I would definatly pull it and tear it down to see what you really have to work with.
well i pulled the intake off and found that a whole section of the cam is gone, and lookin through the top it appears that a rod is gone. i'm pullin the pan off this eavning to see what the damage is.
