Correct term use
When speaking about a pick up truck and the letters SWB are used, I have read in literature that this means "short wheel base" meaning that total wheelbase is shorter, thus making the bed shorter. When hearing different people use the term in conversation some tend to say "Short Wide Bed" / Which term is correct here. The beds on the longbed are not any more "narrow" then the short bed. Confusing.
As for the bed terms, some of us more mature users have our forgetters working better than out rememberiers and have terms like flairside, styleside, and stepside to keep seperated and politicaly correct, so wide bed and narrow bed come into play. You'll just have to play along.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
SWB Short Wide Bed or Short Wheel Base (6'bed)
LWB Long Wide Bed or Long Wheel Base. (8'bed)
A wide bed refers to a styleside or straight side bed.
A narrow bed would be a stepside and are usually refered to that way,
a stepside has a narrower bed because the wheels are outside the bed cargo area, have the large fenders and usually a small ledge or step between the rear fender and cab.
Others on this site may know specifics but several years either style bed could be had in either length.
