Im bought shorty headers for my 93 f150 XLT 4x4 5.0 5spd reg, cab short box. Will installation be that difficult? i know they are headers and won' b easy but will we have to lift the engine up some? i got my headers from summit racing. Thanks for the help!
got them on ebay. From the way it looks there direct bolt on. I've installed headers before and the worst part of the job was the exhust bolts hopefully they wont break
ohh good. i know before me and a buddy put on new headers on a dodge i think adn we had to lift the engine a little bit. Thats wat i was tihnking. The haven't got here yet though so i couldn't tell by the looks of it yet.
Ya i just took a close look at it and i should be fine. Thanks for the help.. haha. it will be a loud drive to te muffler shop to put the new exhaust on :-)
i think i'm gonna be in this same boat pretty soon. pretty big exhaust leak at stock manifolds. how'd the install go? which headers did you end up getting?
Headers on the F trucks are easy. Shorties will drop right in, and even long tubes are not bad... 1 side has come up from below.. can't remember which side it is tho. I have never seen anybody break manifold-head bolts on a Ford... you must be confusing these with junk from Garbage Motors!! These bolts are hi grade and larger gauge than you would think. Everyone I know who puts headers on a GM breaks the bolts in the heads.. but that's cheap steel for ya. Headers on the old Dodge motors(318/360) are a royal pain as well, because several of the bolts go into the water jacket!
soak the stock manifold bolts a good day in advance if you can in liquid wrench. if the headers came with bolts and gaskets throw them out and go buy a good quality gasket and some 1" long allen bolts. this will make install much easier and allow the header to seal better.
now i hope these headers you bought werent the summit brand shorties (flowtech, pacesetter) ones. the quality of these are questionable and most that have run them hated them including me. they leaked and were pourly made.
