i have a 2001 f 250 7.3 sometimes at idle and even running down the road it dies and chugs like it is fighting for fuel or air i have replaced the fuel filter, air filter, cps, and it still is doing it. as for any codes i cant get any everytime i hook a scanner up too it with the service engine light on it comes back with no codes so i have no clue to what is going on if anybody could help that would be great. thanks
have you pulled off the vent lines on the fuel tank (one in front, one in rear) and checked to see if they are clogged or obstructed. these equalize the air pressure outside and inside the tank. if your pump pulls fuel but the atmosphere cannot push on the fuel, it will create a big vacuum in the tank, not letting the engine get fuel.

You might need to check the filters in the mixing valve, in your fuel tank. My truck would quit running completely, and that was my problem. They were clogged up pretty bad. Just get rid of the mixing valve and do the Hutch Mod. Like most of these guy's on here will tell you, your truck will thank you for it.
ive herd about this hutch mod what exactly is it is it basically a fuel pump on the fuel rail instead of it being in the tank or am i wronge well all imput is welcome thanks alot to all that has replied
The hutch mod is removing the mixing valve assy. and replacing it with a short piece of 3/8 SS tubing . It is basicly getting rid of any area that air can enter the fuel system via the tank. You can go to ITP diesel and go under documentation and look for pre-pump fuel tank kit and follow the directions. There are other places to find this mod also. just do a search on Hutch Mod. Hope this helps.
