During a recent round trip of about 600 miles mostly interstate driving my check engine amber light illuminated. This occured after 100 miles of driving.I continued to monitor all the engine parameters everything was ok. At the 300 mile point I disconnected both batteries and after about an hour reconnected the batteries. I have since driven the truck about 300 miles with no reoccurance of the check engine light coming on. Could a fuel issue cause this? The truck did not loose any power while the light was on. Did the computer need a simple re-boot? 2004 F-250 4x2 CC SWB Automatic 3.73 rear with about 18,000 miles.
Well, a check engine light is usually emmisions related. An engine light depends on how many trip cycles that particular commonent needs to set the light. So you may have an intermittent issue that hasnt happened two trips in a row yet. Just a thought.
Take it in and have the dealer read the code stored in the computer. I had my check engine light come on for no apparent reason. No loss of power, normal engine sounds, etc. Turned out to be a faulty glow plug wire. You're still under warranty aren't you?
The light stayed on during the drive home and to the dealer. At the dealer the light went out. I asked them to keep it and check it out. I'm waiting on a new turbo to come it for replacement. The light has not come back on.
I have seen a grip if these trucks kick the MIL light and have a P0401 code, for low EGR flow. Reset and clear the code with a scanner and it may go many thousands of miles without kicking a code. If this is the case the dealer can replace your EGR valve, it may look like a coal mine deposit.Just out of curiosity, have you ever run any type of fuel additive? It seems the trucks that have never had a fuel additive have more EGR clogging problems.
