A/C Compressor cutting on and off

I have a '97 Ford Ranger with a 3.0 engine, and a 5 speed trans. When running the A/C the compressor constantly cuts on and off. The A/C only gets cold after a period of time. Can anyone help with this. I have had the coolant and compressor checked and everything is working correctly, or so as the dealership says. Thanks!

ac on/off

By design the unit goes on and off, they all do. But there other defects that will do the same. Obiviouly lose wire/switchs. If the refrigerent is low that will do it. the systems has a low pressure switch set at about 26 lbs. If pressure is low what happens is . . with engine off pressure might be say 50lbs.?? start the motor compressor come on, suction side pulls refigerent, low side pressure drops below 26-27 lbs. the switch will cut off the compressor, little time passes stact presure equlises or rises back up to 50 then compressor starts again. over and over and over. If its been check they must have check presures. If you want to verify this is not the problem then find the low side presure switch pull the wire conector and brige the pins if its work then either the referigerant is low or a bad switch or lose connector. My guess is nothings wrong its just working by design. good luck
