Ok i just bought this 87 f-150. it has 105,000 miles on it. It is 302 EFI. It was owned by a couple of old folks who let their daughter drive it to school, there wasn't even a scratch in the bed. The only thing is it burns oil bad like a little more than a quart every 2,000 miles. Why does it do this, and what could i do to stop/slow down this burning of oil. I am also planning to put on an electric fan because the stock one is extremely loud. What would you recommend? thanks for all replies.
A quart every two miles is not excessive, but it's more than it should be I think. I'd start looking around for my oil if it were my truck.
Are you sure it's not leaking? I had a leaky oil pan gasket on my truck that wasn't leaving more than a drip or two after it was parked. I put it up on a lift, and the oil was pouring out the gasket when the motor was spinning at 2500.
105k is a little too early for it to be worn out, unless an oil ring has broken inside the motor.
How do the plugs look? Is the oil being burned in the cylinders?
When is the last time the PCV valve was replaced?
Electric fans have been discussed at length in this forum. A search will turn up some results.
