temperature guage reads HOT!

today i went to get my engine steam cleaned. everything under my hood was completely caked with mud, and this seemed the only way to get rid of it. well it looks better than new, but as i was driving home i noticed my engine light above the wiper control was on, and my temperature needle was way past hot. i've never seen a diesel even be in the normal range.

i pulled off the road into a parking lot and let it sit for about an hour. nothing seemed abnormal. i came back and the guage was still reading overly hot. it hadn't even moved. i figured a wire got messed up from the steam cleaning.

i drove the truck the 5 miles back to my house with the heater on full blast(my dad told me to do this), and nothing seemed un-normal except the guage hadn't changed. when i got home i ran a hose on the radiator for about 5 minutes with the truck on. then i turned it off and ran the hose on it for another 5 minutes. after all this, the guage still read the same.

so, do any of you guys know what's going on or how to fix the problem? i'm 95% sure some wiring just got messed up from the steam clean.

Temp sending units.

In the block under the AC pump for the gauge.
The one in front of the drivers side exhaust manifold is for the light.

The year does not make any difference, they were all in the same place from 83 to 94.

You may have bare wire somewhere else in the harness. Both sending units work as a ground to activate the light or gauge.
