My 02 Ex just turned over 30,000 miles and a mechanic friend told me I should think about cleaning out the Throttle Body. I guess the V-10 sometimes builds carbon deposits in the Throttle Body.
The Ex runs like a top.
Does anyone know how to clean the Throttle Body out?
I had aDodge Ram 1500 w/5.2L engine - they were famous for an intake plenum gasket failing which carboned up the entire intake system.
One of the corrective actions included spraying Mopar Combustion Chamber cleaner directly into the throttle body opening while the engine is idling. The instructions are right on the can. After emptying the can into the throttle body, you shut the engine off and let it sit for a couple of hours. Then you start it up and smoke out the neighborhood.
It works though.
the combustion chamber cleaner is available at all chrysler dealers for about 6.50 per can.
you can use any throttle body or intake cleaner spray. I clean out the throttle body with the spray and then use my finger or a toothbrush to GENTLY clean it out, then start the truck and increase idle untill it cleans out. Dont be afraid when it seems to take longer to start for the first time after cleaning.
When I had my Land Rover I used Sea Foam cleaner on it. To use the cleaner you can pour it into the gas tank, crank case and also into the vaccum line coming from the master cylinder. I was curious if this would also work on the Excursion I read somewhere that you should not use some types of cleaners on these engines. Whne I used the Sea Foam it must have worked because the smake that came out the tail pipe was black and there was a large amount of it.
