Well I finally got those Flowtech headers installed in my '72 302, all pipes installed and tightened down. So I started it up last night and it sounded great...only slightly louder than with just the duals. Backed it out of the garage in eager anticipation. Put it in drive...wait...it won't go into drive. The gear selector linkage to my C4 hits the collector flange! So I backed it into the garage again and tonight I'll try to see what can be done.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Could the connector at the end of the gear selector rod be turned around and go into the other side of the transmission lever? HELP!
Well I guess I'll answer my own post. Yes the gear selector rod end can be repositioned to the other side of the transmission lever. The only trouble now is that the kick down lever must be modified to the clear the rod end. The kick down lever has an offset of about 3/4" and this will have to be reduced to about 1/2".
Anyway I can drive the truck now. I must be doing something wrong because I cannot detect any performance increase whatsoever with the headers. As far as noise goes I think it is actually quieter now, if that is possible. Maybe it is the mufflers...they are turbos...but they are very quiet. This is a bone stock 302 which is in very good tune but maybe headers just don't do much good unless the whole engine is upgraded ie cam, intake, carb. etc.
