I've got a big problem! This is what happen's when a girl tries to mess with wires in a car! I was trying to put in a stereo and long story short i cut some wires (stupid i know) and all of a sudden my windshield wipers don't work now. Can anyone explain this to me?????? I checked the fuse and its still fine. I'm lost!
First... I would cut your losses (no pun intended) on tryin to get that new radio installed at this minute. Disconnect the Battery! Then I would go fishing... ( you may wanna friend's help) take a nice bright flashlight. Either have some sort of "third hand" (or friend) and aim the flashlight down inside that space back down where the radio would sit and simply look and try to reconnect anything that looks...uhm freshly cut, i've noticed over the years that most of the time a wirecutter will leave either a tapered end to a wire or a whitish appearance.
And / Or.....
Try to get a hold of wiring schematics for your Ranger and look for the circuits in and around the wipers. The schmatics should have the color combinations. Then compare your findings with what you have in the radio mounting location.
(Personally....I would have a schematic there while comparing and testing wires. )
Lastly...if you get the wipers working... go out and purchase a "factory-fit" wiring harness. Most basic radio headunits should Not require you to cut wires if you are using a "factory-fit" harness. If i'm not too mistaken, Pioneer and a few others have came out with harness that are relatively plug'n play but you must specify your vehicle make and model. I am guessing that this was a aftermarket radio?
