[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Feb-02 AT 03:44 PM (EST)]i have a 68 f100 360cid with a auto c6. My steering assembly thing where i change the gears broke. My grandpa who's been a mechanic for 30 years suggested to cut a hole and get a floor shifter in. have any of you ever done htis before. it seems it would be a lot better and easier then with all these springs and gears n' such going up to the stearing shaft. Thanks
Anyone??? i really need some help fast. i have seen some shifters for the c6 but i dont think there gunna be long enough. i need like a 2 foot rod i think. pelase help
Chris, Can't you weld it back together. You can go to a local salvage yard and get another piece. The C6 shifting rod should be plentiful.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
I have seen a B&M truck megashifter installed in a '72 with a 390 & C-6 combo. The guy said that the truck megashifter has the longer shifter handle that is necessary for a truck application. The shifter is a rachet style shifter that (like all B&M shifters) is cable operated. He had made his own console out of wood, and other laminates, and the shifter fit flush in that. Looked pretty trick to me.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Feb-02 AT 07:02 PM (EST)]I'm looking a that b&m shifter right now. It looks like it wouldnt sit high enough. i just want a big one witha thick stick, about a foot and half off the ground. thanks
Remember there are two mega shifters. The standard one for cars, and the one that is taller for trucks. Most catalogs only show the short one for cars. Go B&M's web site for more info on the truck shifter.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Feb-02 AT 07:40 PM (EST)]i want a floor shifter. Its less likely to have problems. Do they sell complete shift collars for my truck? if so where? and how much?
Dennis Carpenter sells them for $43.00. The online store can get anything that Dennis has. LMC also has them for $19.95. Don't know why the big difference in price. You can order their catalogs online too.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Feb-02 AT 09:53 PM (EST)]Ok i just got lmc 2002 winter edition today. But what floor shifters would u all recomend for my truck? i mean i dont want to spend 200$ on a shifter if i dont need one. thanks
...the only one i see is on page 94 and it says its for 71-72 only.
Maybe I'm missing something here, I don't know. But on my trucks there is a pannel in the floor that you can remove, so you shouldn't have to cut a whole in the floor. And as for a shifter, if it's a C6, then it wouldn't be hard to build your own. Of course it would only look as good as you could make it, but I'm certain it wouldn't be all that difficult.
CRJ900, Trust me, repairing what you have will be much simpler and cheaper than any floor shift/chop a hole in the truck crap idea. Your current column has a back up light switch, neutral start switch and a set of minor issues that you need to resolve. Do this! Un plug the wiring harness at the junction between the truck and column harness, unscrew the floor plate where the column goes through the floor, un hook the shift rod at the column, unbolt the rag joint from the gear box, remove two bolts and a cover from the bottom of the dash and pull the column out. 1 hour with simple tools tops. Take the column over to your Grandpas and working together replace the lower bearing and the shift collar. Reassemble and re-install with a new floor boot. This is not a very complicated repair and going through the original column and replacing only those parts that are damaged is not expensive. Be careful of the back up light/neutral start actuating lever. I pop this off first and pop it back on last, just before I put the column in the truck. Are there any board members near this young man, someone that could offer hands on help?

Is there a site u all could give me with pics or a tech article that gcould help me. If not could some one take some pics and show me step by step on what to do
The B&M shifter is a good shifter, but it looks ugly with that big plastic box on the bottom. Lokar just came out with a floor mounted shifter that looks good.
