exhaust

i'm going to go to a muffler shop and have them build me a new exhaust system. first off, i was wondering if i should have them build it out of 3.5" pipe, or 4"? will 4" even fit on my stock truck? also, keep in mind i don't have or plan on getting a turbo.

since i live in southern california, i can't go with no muffler. i'd like something that is less restrictive, and produces a good deisel sounds. are there any recommendations for muffler brands and models?

thanks for the help.

The biggest pipe that will hook to the exhaust manifold is a 2.25" ID pipe.

Here is an article that was just published on the 6.9 and 7.3 NA exhaust mod.
Nice pictures, and it is what needs to be done for much better flow.
I like mufflers that you can see straight through, but you will have a louder truck and it will have a jake brake sound when gearing down with the engine between about 2700 and 2100 RPM.

With a NA motor, and the extra cost of 4" pipe, I think I would go with 3" from the Y back.
