2000 F150 Manual Trans Problem
At 36K, the transmission was replaced under warranty. I was never told what the problem was, they just told me it was replaced. The sympton that made me bring the truck to the dealer was it would on occasion not want to go into gear after startup and moving the truck slightly. A typical example of the problem is the truck is started after sitting for several hours (usually over night) then the truck is moved several feet to back up (sometimes forward) after done backing the shift lever is placed in neutral but won't go into any gear. It does not grind or make any funny noises it just simply will not engage. To make it go into gear, I have to turn off the engine and restart. Upon restarting it slides into gear just fine.
When I got the new transmission it was fine for a short time but started to do the same thing again. It is occuring more frequently, about twice per week. It happened again yesterday morning.
I would appreciate any thoughts on what might be happening.
Have you checked the clutch fluid?
Quite often the slave cylinder will leak. Where the fluid leaks out air can come in and then the clutch won't work properly.
