V10 Starting Issues

A little piece of history first. I bought the truck new and have babied it for the most part. Ive done most routine maintenance with the exception of Transaxle fluid.
In October '05 I went out to start her up one night, and let of the ignition slightly prematurely. Upon re trying to start it it would kill after about 2 seconds of running. this repeated for 5 or 6 times. I then let it sit for 2 hours and tried again to the same result. No big deal she was under warrany so i had her towed in. When i called them the next day they said there was no problem it started right up. the could offer no explaination for it either.
So i kept driving it no problems for 6 months when it simply shut itself off while i was sitting at a stoplight. no noises just as smooth as if i had turned off the key. well it restarted right away so i did not worry much about it. 4 days later after using it all day i stopped for some groceries and when i came out it would not start again but this time instead of 2 seconds of running and then killing it would run very harshly, slow and choppy, for 5 seconds then kill Like it was getting not enough air or fuel. tried it a few times and decided to wait till the next morning. When i retried it in the morning it would crank fast but no fire. im leaning twords a fuel problem. With no time to deal with it myself i had a freind tow it to the dealership. sadly my 3/36 warranty is over by a month with only 26k on it. But ill post again when they let me know whats up.

Do a search on the IAC valve.

Try pushing the gas pedal maybe 1/2 to 1 inch down and try starting it. If it fires right up and runs, change the IAC.

Well, the dealership called back at 3:30 yesterday afternoon after saying they would get to it right away in the morning, and said they were too busy all day to look at it, but it would be first thing this morning. Half an hour later i got another call saying it was a dead fuel pump to the tune of $670.00 with air filter and installation..price sounds steem but i cant live without her. To me it seems ludacris that a fuel pump would die with 26k on it. i realize thats a lot more fuel than 26k on a Metro, but still. Thanks for the replies and hope this is an isolated incident. i think i found one other post in a search with same problem dont remeber how many miles though, i thought his was still under warranty.

And if it does it AFTER the fuel pump is changed, I'd stake the service manager to the ground covered in honey, near an ant nest.

Usually a bad fuel pump will NOT cut out when the engine is already running. They can fail to start running when you turn the key, and the engine won't start. They usually don't cause it to stall out while it's already running.

Still sounds like the IAC. I'd have checked if a little go-pedal makes it startup.
