My truck's ('05 F150 FX4 Reg Cab) sitting in the driveway Monday afternoon and I hear a ticking sound coming from inside behind the driver's door that I can only compare to relays clicking. I type the code into the keypad on the door and NOTHING HAPPENS. The door didn't unlock! I tried it several times with the same result. Now I can't get into the truck. Okay, just use the key, right? It's in the truck. That's where I keep it and use the touchpad on the door to unlock it all the time. Can't find the other set of keys. Tonight as I was getting ready for work, my wife tells me she thinks she knows where the other key is. Terrific! Except then she says that the last time she drove it she put the key in the center console. Great! Both keys are inside and the keypad won't unlock the truck. This ain't gonna be fun!
If the battery is dead, put the positive lead from some jumper cables on the positive terminal on the starter, then clamp the negative lead to the frame. That should let you unlock the door.
Actually, the dealer made me a key from my VIN on file. Great folks, they are. Made a key for my F150 and one for my Wife's F150, too! For Free! Just a regular key, though. Not a transponder key.
When I closed the windows yesterday afternoon I didn't turn off the ignition. That'll run down the battery Every Time!
