aklim, I was considering your idea last night when I went out for a drive with the new BTS. But I don't think it is the guage because I get a good steady reading of 210 with just the 6.0 cooler and towing my 36 foot 5th wheel and with the trucool hooked up it jumped to 230???? Should have been cooler with both I know but I will check for guage accuracy today.
Thumper, I ran the truck for a rough count of 15 sec with the return hose running into a 32 oz gatorade bottle. Make sure to block off the open return line or it may spew back out of the tranny!
The guage is working properly I disconnected it and the sensor and set it up in the kitchen using pan of water and wife's cooking thermometer! I am stumped at this point unless the high altitude or position of the sensor has something to do with it. Or the bypass is stuck open but, I wouldn't think I would get the same flow.
So as it stands the flow is correct and the gauge is correct....hmmm...what else could it be? Is the torque converter locking up correctly? If the torque converter was slipping (not locking up) that would build the kind of temps you are getting.... Man, that is serious hot ...I go over Donner Summit (7,200+ ft ) regularly and I can't get over 175F with a very similar rig (35' fifthwheel loaded to the gills) as yours...and this is after a 40 mile pull up from the Sacramento Valley.

If your truck was warmed up when you did the flow test you probably answered your question right there. The by-pass should not have let fluid come out of the back hole when you tested. The by-pass should have been closed off because of temps.

There's your problem! It should not spew back out of the trans. If it does it means the bypass is allowing fluid to bypass the cooler. It could be a restriction in the cooling lines, but more likely the bypass is just stuck.
That could be Craven, didn't think of that and they didn't ask if it was 4x4 or not. Hell they didn't even ask what color it was or how many doors it had for that matter!!! (sorry for the parts store pun if anyone works at one).
Will it be okay or do I have to drop the pan again??

I would. You want the pickup as low as possible, to keep it in the oil and less chance of the pump sucking any foam or air.
Yeah I thought about it after I posted and figured better safe than sorry but had no access to the web to recind that post! With it running hotter than everyone here says it should I don't want to take any chances.
