Hey fellas, was wondering if anyone knows if a 2.3L out of a 97 ranger will swap right in place of a 92 ranger with little or no problems.
The 2.3L in my bros ranger is scrap and I have a line on a running 2.3L out of a wrecked 97 ranger. It also has the the same 5spd as my bros ranger.
Yeah...to the best of my knowledge you drop it in and go. Tranny should bolt up. I would reccommend swapping computers as well though, just for good measure.
It should bolt up. BUT I would use the existing cpu. There may be some smog/emissions stuff on the 97 that the 92 dosen't have; be programed for; or have the wiring for. You may have to move some of the accessorys including emissions from the old engine.

I was planing on using the intake and accories from the 92. Also, the manifold is craked on the 92 and was looking at going with a header, what do you guys reccomend?
The 97 has the obd2 computer, the 92 doesn't, just strip the 97 down to valve cover, head, block, and oil pan, then use all the stuff from the 92, just to be safe. I'm sure there's alot of companies that sell a header for the 2.3, but I'm having a brain fart, cause the only one I can think of off hand is Cifford Performance.
Thats about what I thinking, cause the EFI in the 92 ran like a top and never skipped a beat.
I have found some headers on ebay but mostly for pintos, will a pinto header work and clear everything?
